How is Belmore building on from the Game 2 Learn program?

Through their involvement in the Game2Learn program they are modelling their school philosophy of Do it, Talk it, Read it, Write it.
  • They will use the students interest in games to build their language skills so that they can become critically and visually literate.
  • They use existing games such as Civilisation, SimCity and Nintendo's Big Brain Academy to provide entry points to authentic assessment and ‘just in time’ learning in history, geography, religion, politics. With critical and visual literacy skills students then have the foundation to begin their own game design.
  • They will continue with the Game2Learn idea with student developed games using Missionmaker, Scratch and Gamemaker.
  • The students are already creative and imaginative publishers but they will extend their online publishing in their wiki's and blogs and take this further with Nintendo DS lights. Students are also writing and publishing their own cheat sheets for Samarost 2.
  • They are continuing to use the Wii in the classroom to immerse students in the games experience through the motion sensitive nature of the Wii console.
  • They are introducing robotics in the k-2 classrooms with Bee-Bot which starts students on basic programming using a grid system to map and sequence the robots actions. It also initiates the students' interaction with the game cycle of action = event
  • The students always blog about their work. There are class blogs and multi-class blogs. This is the AllStars blog and they talk about the work they have been doing in using digital games in their classrooms.
